Visa for language acquisition

A standard visitor visa allows you to come to Germany for up to 3 months.  

If you want to come to Germany for a longer period of time and learn German, you can apply for a visa for language acquisition. This visa is valid for a maximum of 1 year (365 days).  

You must apply for the visa for language acquisition at your local German embassy or consulate. Please allow sufficient time for the whole process, as issuing the visa may take up to 3 months. 

You must attend a minimum of 18 hours of German per week in an intensive German language course. In order to apply for your visa, you need confirmation of registration from your relevant language school stating the duration of your language course. We shall issue confirmation of registration once you have registered and paid for three consecutive intensive courses. The administration fee is €25.
